âď¸đWinter Skincare 101: The Dos & Donâts for Beautiful, Radiant, Silky Skin!
Although some days are warmer than others, one thing is for sure: We still have many winter days left. Sadly, these chilly temperatures can spell BIG trouble for your skin: flakiness, irritation, redness, and even a sagging or grayish complexion.
Here are the Dos and Donâts to help you have glowy, silky, soft skin even in crazy cold climates!
DO: Flood your skin with moisture at night
Dry, flaky skin is practically impossible to avoid in colder months. And because your skin produces less oil as you age, it becomes much harder to retain water, which leaves your skin paper-thin and more susceptible to wrinkles and sagging.
The best way to ramp up your skinâs moisture is to use our Bee Brilliance Face Serum, which contains nourishing ingredients like lavender essential oils, hyaluronic acid, and bee venom to protect the skin barrier, soothe winter redness and irritation, boost collagen production, and deep moisture retention. For a heavier moisturization option, you can add another layer of moisturizer 20 minutes after applying Bee Brilliance Face Serum.Â
Apply your Bee Brilliance Face Serum BEFORE your moisturizer (that way, our powerful ingredients can really sink into your skin). Combine our Bee Brilliance Face Serum in your skincare routine to keep your skin hydrated, nourished, and radiant, glowing even in the coldest months.
Reminder- wait at least 1 hour before lying in bed for maximum absorption. Otherwise, you risk the product rubbing off onto your pillowcase, which can attract bacteria and dirt particles. It can make your skin more irritated and âangryâ when you wake up.
DO: Make a DIY humidifier
Because cold air holds less moisture, it can make your dry skin go from bad to worse â especially when you crank up the heat. In addition to super moisturizing your skin, I highly recommend re-moisturizing the air itself. Humidifiers do precisely that â you can make one right at home if you don’t have one. And itâs SUPER simple!
All you have to do is place a bowl or pot filled with water in a room with no lid, allowing the water to evaporate naturally. To increase the evaporation rate, place the bowl near a heat source like a heater or radiator. (But not too close!)
The best time to do this is at night. That way, you can put the bowl right by your bed, and your skin can drink in all that extra moisture overnight. Youâll be amazed at how soothed and dewy your skin feels with the extra moisture.
And if you really want to protect your skin this winterâŚ
DONâT: Over-exfoliate
It can be VERY tempting to exfoliate when your skin starts to flake. This is a giant mistake because it can strip away your natural oils very quickly and disrupt your skin barrier. And all that irritation can lead to redness, painful tightening, and increased sensitivity. It can also leave your skin at risk for environmental damage, hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. Stick to once every two weeks using a gentle exfoliator like glycolic or lactic acid.
DONâT: Skip sunscreen
Yep, even in winter, your skin is at risk for sunburns, especially in snowy areas. Because even on cloudy days, fresh snow can reflect up to 80% of UV rays â which can DOUBLE your sun exposure!
Even if it looks gloomy, itâs very important to lather up on a good SPF (aim for 30 or higher) on exposed areas like your face, lips, and hands.
My best for lastâŚ
DO: Remember to exercise & smile âşď¸Â
Winter can be tough for many of us⌠With dark skies, shorter days, less sunlight, and freezing temperatures, the days can really start to blend together. Exercise and smiling can boost happiness and the look of your skin.
When I feel bogged down by the seemingly endless winter season, I make extra effort to stay active and exercise. Sometimes, itâs going for a walk and hike with our farm dog in nature. Other times, itâs yoga and meditation to have some quiet time in my headspace.
Whatever brings you joy, make time for it! Acts of self-care help to minimize cortisol levels, which is the hormone that plays a huge role in creating wrinkles. Being happier and decreasing stress levels can lead to a healthier, more radiant complexion. Plus, youâll get a release of “feel-good” hormones like dopamine and serotonin â so it’s a win-win. So, keep smiling and keep moving, and you’ll see the difference in your skin and your mood.
If you follow this guide, I have no doubt youâll notice you wake up with a silky-soft radiant glow and beautiful skin. These tips are tried and tested, and they work. So, trust the process and enjoy the results!
With Love,
