As local growers ourselves, we are huge fans and supporters of the Floyd Farmers Market. Floyd is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains in southwestern Virginia. It is a haven of natural beauty. Renowned for its hospitality and a vibrant culture of music, arts, local foods and outdoor recreation.
This market provides our farm with an opportunity to connect with customers, share our lavender products, and teach members of our community about the importance of buying from local farmers rather than big-name brands.
We started participating in the Floyd Farmers Market as a vendor in June 2021, which followed a year of isolation and Covid lockdowns. It’s been one of the most gratifying experiences to be able to learn, share, and grow alongside many local farmers within our communities this past year! We are thrilled to be active within the farmers market landscape again in 2022.
Why Are Farmers Markets Important?
In recent years, farmers markets have become increasingly popular. Many individuals are starting to realize the importance of buying local produce and supporting the farming industry rather than purchasing from big-name grocery stores. These markets not only provide our community with access to freshly grown produce, but it also gives farmers the chance to sell their products and cultivate local support.
Farmers markets have their place within each community, and one the biggest perks is they bring cost-effective, retail sales opportunities for local farmers and producers, helping make this industry profitable again. By making farming profitable, we are helping to preserve many acres of farmland and encourage aspiring farmers to join in on the fun. In addition, farmers markets have both a direct and indirect impact on the economic growth of their surrounding communities. These markets support each farmer and their family directly, helping their business value increase while becoming catalysts for change within the community.
How Can Farmers Market Benefit You?
There are many benefits of shopping at farmers market. One of the most common reasons for shopping locally are the homegrown goods packed with natural nutrients. The fruits, vegetables, flowers, and garnishes you’re finding are picked at the peak of their ripeness, ensuring that the nutrients they harbor are readily available to you.
Additionally, you get to engage with the farmer and other local shoppers who can share their expertise with you. You’ll be able to learn firsthand how their products are grown, and farmers typically are excellent at providing delicious recipes and uses for their goods. I am a much better cook today thanks to their teaching 🙂
Our Baby Bear Farm Family is proud to serve our community, and we take pride in sharing our organic locally grown, hand-crafted lavender products with you!
